Become A Ride Leader

Fancy yourself as a Ride Leader? If so, here is some key information for you.

Who They Are

Our ride leaders represent Clapham Cycle each week, organising rides and social events for our members. Just like our members, they vary in ability and generally lead the colour groups close to their own pace. They are a friendly bunch, and started out as members just like you!

What's Involved

Each week our ride leaders communicate in their private forum, planning the routes and colour group allocations for the weekend ahead. Once they have decided on the route(s), the ride leaders will post rides in our calendar for the members to sign up to.

They keep a keen eye on the weather conditions and, as a collective, make a judgement call on whether the ride should go ahead the day before.

At the beginning of each ride, they will orchestrate their group, brief them on the ride ahead and check everyone is comfortable. People might be asked to move groups if there is a more suitable colour ride for them.

Our ride leaders meet every other month with the management team to give feedback, discuss future ideas and plan holidays.

    Ride Leader Perks

Our ride leaders are extremely important to Clapham Cycle. They keep us riding each week. As a gesture of our appreciation for their continued support, the club provides the following benefits to all ride leaders:

    • Free membership to CC (applied after being a ride leader for three months with a noticeable contribution)
    • Premium RidewithGPS access
    • Free use of club bike boxes (1 week per year)
    • Invitations to ride leader only meetings, events and the WhatsApp group
    • 20% Discount at our club shop (excludes new bikes)
      What's Expected

Our ride leaders are the face of Clapham Cycle, and it is expected that their behaviour both on and off the bike is an example to others. They must adhere to the standards set out in the Code of Conduct, Equality & Diversity, and Riding Etiquette & Safety policies and champion them with our members.

We ask ride leaders to organise five or more rides or social events per year.
